Lake Clearwater

Located in Mid Canterbury, Lake Clearwater is just over a two-hour drive from Christchurch. While not the most famous tourist attraction, it's a popular spot for local campers. The route to Lake Clearwater from the Ashburton Lakes is gravel. Driving this road in pitch darkness, hoping to catch the sunrise over the lake in a remote, unfamiliar location, was nerve-wracking. Yet, it was absolutely worth it in the end.
