Silent Sentinel
On my first day in Mangawhai Heads, I had an early start. My mission was to scout the beach before sunrise and find the perfect spot to capture the dawn. For an hour and a half, an almost perfect stillness enveloped me, broken only by the anticipation of the sun's arrival. As the sun finally peeked above Sentinel Rock, I realised just how special this landmark truly was. Later research revealed the rock's fascinating history. During the early days of European settlement in early 1800, residents and shipping personnel lobbied the government for a safe passage for their boats due to the frequent drownings. However, despite their efforts, progress stalled, and Sentinel Rock has remained a silent witness to history.
